Astfel, universitatea simulează o închisoare în subsolul clădirii principale în care participanţii, împărţiţi anterior în 2 grupuri, gardieni şi deţinuţi trebuie să convieţuiască timp de 14 zile. În cazul apariţiei unor semne de violenţă, experimentul avea să se încheie.
